Great zombie shooter with difficult controls
THE DEAD: Chapter One is a visually impressive first person survival game.
Almost everything about the game is great.
The graphics are sharp and polished, showcasing impressive character models and environments. THE DEAD: Chapter One has some of the most impressive stylized graphics. The game has a similar style to Left 4 Dead, but slightly different.
The idea of THE DEAD: Chapter One is like most zombie survival games: survive as many waves of zombies as possible. It is simple, but quickly addictive.
THE DEAD: Chapter One adds a variety of weapons and boss monsters. All the parts of the game had the potential to showcase a great brilliance, but the entire experience is stopped by one major issue – the controls are not as precise as they have to be for this type of game.
At the start of THE DEAD: Chapter One when there are few zombies, there is little concern for the sluggish response of the controls. But it only takes a few minutes before there are zombies surrounding you, and turning or aiming takes too long and you die in the first wave. Even customizing the sensitivity in the controls did not help in correcting this issue.
All the ingredients exist for an incredible game, but THE DEAD: Chapter One’s control issues need to be adjusted or the game will never play fluidly.
THE DEAD: Chapter One is a great game and needs one fix to be incredible.
