The mobile port of the highly popular action roguelike

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a premium action game that was released by Nicalis Inc for mobile devices. It is the mobile port of the highly popular action roguelike game of the same name that was first released back in 2014 for PCs.

Compared to the original The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth game, this port was optimized for touch input. It carries over all the things fans loved about the PC game like the content that provides over 100 hours of gameplay. There is even support for a 2-player local co-op with a separate controller.

How does it compare to the PC version?

When The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth first came out in 2014, it received an overwhelmingly positive reception from players, and rightfully so. It’s an action roguelike that did a lot of things well and featured charming retro graphics and a funny, if somewhat dark, presentation. The release of this mobile port brings with it many of the same things.

Being made to be played on smaller screens, the controls in the game were well optimized for touch input. You get analog controls on opposite sides for twin-stick shooting. Meanwhile, the bottom-center houses your bomb, item, and pill/card slots. Along with them, is a rather sizable pause button, presumably for easier access. You can also opt to enable an auto-fire option, letting you focus on movement and dodging.

As for the gameplay itself, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is just like the original. You sadly won’t get the expansions here, though. Also, while you are given the choice to play in either horizontal or vertical orientations, playing in portrait mode is quite cramped given the small phone screen size. Apart from these things, however, this is a near 1:1 mobile port.

Near-perfect mobile port

The Binding of Isaac is a great example of a mobile port done right. The controls have been tweaked to work better on touch devices and the wealth of content that the base game had is all present here. If not for the lack of the various expansions available for the original, this is a near 1:1 port. Highly recommended.
