Powerful repairing tool for disk partitions
TestDisk is probably very different from any other application you may have tried to recover lost data… mainly because it has no graphical interface.
TestDisk has been developed to help you recover lost partitions and make non-booting disks bootable again. Like I said before, it doesn’t have a nicely designed window; all the tools and functions in the program are managed in a DOS window via command-line controls.
With TestDisk you can fix partition tables and recover deleted partitions, rebuild the boot sector, recover deleted files from FAT, NTFS and ext2 file systems and other disk-related recovery tasks.
While TestDisk is certainly a powerful tool, it’s suitable only for users with a certain degree of computer knowledge. If you’re sure of what you’re doing, you’d better stay away from this one: disk partitions and boot sectors are serious stuff!
TestDisk is a powerful tool to recover lost partitions, fix partition tables and rebuild the boot sector, though it requires a bit of computer expertise to use.
fidentify, a little utility sharing PhotoRec signature database, is now build by default. It identifies the type of data contained in a file and reports the extension as seen by PhotoRec. It is similar to the Unix file command.
