Eat everything on the planet with this game
No matter how old Pac-man is, its legacy still lives on in contemporary games. The simple, but fun, gameplay of going around the floor gobbling up stuff is classic and timeless, so it’s no surprise that there are games today that still does it. Tasty Planet Forever is one such game, and although its mechanics are highly reminiscent of Pac-man, it still has its own personal twist that makes it distinct. Developed by Dingo Games, Tasty Planet Forever has all the makings of a classic action game.
Premise and Features
Tasty Planet Forever has a pretty hilarious premise. You initially play as a cat and your objective is to eat as many objects as possible. At first, you’ll only be able to eat mice and dots, but as you continue eating, you’ll grow larger and larger and you’ll be able to eat other things. This is taken to ridiculous extremes as you become capable of eating large animals and even humans. You’ll also be able to eat inedible objects like knives, chairs, bottles, and more. By the end of the game, your cat avatar has become a monstrous freak of nature.
You can also play as a couple of other animals such as an octopus, shark, bee, and more. Some of the animals play a bit differently than others.
Mechanics and Execution
The game is presented in a top-down 2D format in the cat levels. At the bottom left of the screen, players will find the virtual joystick that will control the cat. One issue with the game is that the controls are a bit difficult to get used to. The cat tends to go wherever it wants instead of wherever the player wants. Still, this is a minor annoyance and the gameplay is simple enough to be enjoyable despite this problem.
At the top left of the screen, players will find a progress bar that indicates how large the cat has become and how much more they need to grow to end the level. Depending on how well you can control the cat, each level can take several minutes to complete. Understandably, the gameplay can feel a bit repetitive if it’s continuously played.
Fun, Simple, Classic
Despite the repetitiveness of the gameplay, Tasty Planet Forever has everything it needs to be considered a classic. It is simple and uncomplicated, but it is still challenging enough to engage players without making them bored. If you’re looking for a new game to sink your teeth into that has classic mechanics then Tasty Planet Forever is a good game to try out.
