Open-world survival game for PC
Subsistence is a premium action game for PC developed by ColdGames. It is a first-person open-world survival title wherein players need to survive in a harsh and unforgiving environment. They will need to build and develop a base and other essential infrastructure to adapt to the changing seasons.
Similar to Raft or ARK: Survival Evolved, Subsistence has players start out with nothing, and they will need to forage for food and other resources that they need to be able to survive. There are also various wildlife and dangerous predators that they should be wary of.
Man vs. wild
Open-world survival games are popular for their challenging and open (pun intended) approach to gameplay. It’s up to you how you face and overcome the various obstacles and challenges you’ll encounter, making the experience feel unique and personal. Subsistence is a title that aims to offer all of this, wrapped inside a realistic environment that manages to showcase the beauty and unforgiving nature of its environment at the same time.
In this game, it’s you against nature, or with others via online co-op, as you try to survive and adapt to its constantly changing seasons. The game offers a well-rounded experience, with various activities like base-building, farming, and crafting. You can also cook your own food, raise animals, and even mine ores. A night/day cycle and dynamic weather system round out the gameplay.
What’s more, it features hostile hunters who, more often than not, attack on sight and can even trespass on your territory and wreak havoc. You’ll need to fend them off with weapons and other items that you will be crafting. Just know that it’s still in early access and very much in active development. Check its official Steam page for more news and updates in the future.
Fight for survival
Overall, if you’re a fan of survival games and prefer a single-player experience, give Subsistence a try. It boasts a beautifully rendered world, deep and complex mechanics, and just a well-rounded experience overall. Hopefully, development for it progresses smoothly, and the full game gets released sooner rather than later. It’s already quite good in its current state that you’ll enjoy it regardless. Recommended.
