Create your story in this puzzle game

Storyteller is a video game developed by Daniel Benmergui that challenges players to write their stories. In this reactive puzzle game, players are given a title, characters, and settings. Then, they must put them all together in a narrative that unfolds across a short storyboard.

The Storyteller game comes with a library full of characters and themes. It also includes different types of storylines, including love, lies, madness, infidelity, and remorse. Although, note that the game is still in the demo stage. The levels you can play are limited, so as the characters and themes.

How do you play the game?

In Storyteller, players are tasked to put together a story based on the characters, title, and settings provided by the game. They can do so by arranging everything in comic strip panels. Arranging is as simple as clicking and dragging the story elements from the bottom to any of the comic panels. The level is cleared if you wrote a plot that corresponds to the provided title.

As mentioned, there are various storylines available in the game, including love, remorse, madness, and more. There is also a wide range of characters, from heroes and villains to vampires and dragons. With this, you can write anything that comes to mind. Although, note that how everything behaves in panels is contextual. It also builds on their innate character, relationships established in the previous panels, and what’s already happened.

Staying true to its name, Storyteller comes with a visual style that utilizes fairytale-style illustration and comic book-like layouts. What makes things more fun is the little animations for actions and reactions, especially if your answers are wrong or your scene does not correspond to the title. However, as noted, this is a demo game. The stories to solve are limited and are largely about romance, fairy tales, and tragedy.

Should you play it?

If you are a fan of visual novel games, Storyteller will be right up your alley. Only this time, you don’t have to live through the story. Instead, you can create them. In this game, you have plenty of stories that you can write however you want. Just don’t forget to follow the storyline given by the title of each puzzle.
