Improve an RTS game with this free mod
Sparta Definitive Edition Mod is a free game utility that offers an expanded adventure for Ancient Wars: Sparta. Developed by Jotasoft, this mod is considered a remastered version of AW: Sparta—almost a totally new game. It adds various new content that allows the title to go head-to-head with other strategy games and continues to improve the game with the help of its active community of fans.
The fix fans needed for this title
Ancient Wars: Sparta is a 2007 real-time strategy video game developed by World Forge and published by Playlogic. The game features three separate semi-fictional campaigns set in different ancient cultures: the Spartans, the Ancient Egyptians, and the Persians. Each campaign is divided into multiple linear missions—all set in different years—but these campaigns are independent of one another and can be played in any order. The game is a mixture of both combat and economic micromanagement.
Sparta Definitive Edition Mod aims to expand what you can play within this game. For one, it updates the roster to nine fully-playable campaigns—and includes 20 fully-playable races like the Crusaders, Mongolians, Burtons, and Macedonians. This comes with new maps that you can explore. There also are over 50 new units available—like garrisons, mercenaries, war dogs, and spies—and new buildings to complement them, as well.
Aside from that, there were lots of improvements. A new user interface has been designed to revamp the look of the HUD. The unit voiceovers were remastered, and there’s now a full editor of maps and campaigns. The graphics have been improved and even supports 4k resolution. Compatibility addons have also been included, as well as a reworked physics system for better sieges and full multiplayer support.
No need for the main game
Overall, Sparta Definitive Edition Mod almost feels like a great overhaul mod for this strategy title that hasn’t been as well-received as the others in its genre. However, the main issue with this mod is that it comes in three separate parts that you have to download in order to start playing. The file size is huge and hits the limit for host sites—but fortunately, you don’t need the main game to play it.
