Know the price of a peaceful life
Spare Parts: Episode 1 is a visual novel created by the indie developer named Sophie Rose. As the first episode of the series entitled “Spare Parts,” this game will have you experience the long struggles of finding a peaceful life. It features a very intriguing premise and endearing characters that will have you completely hooked. It also comes with good visuals and music that add to the atmosphere of the game. However, the story is relatively short.
What is the game about?
Spare Parts: Episode 1 follows a woman named Lucy, who was looking for a foothold to start the rest of her life after leaving her parents’ home. However, with no experience and only one friend, this new chapter in her life proved to be arduous. More than anything, she is finding it hard to look for a job—that is, until she stumbles into a shop run by a mysterious woman.
For some reason, that woman hired her on the spot to work in the shop. While working there, she met intriguing new characters who appeared to talk and act as if they were not humans at all. Unable to keep her nose out of other’s business, Lucy finds herself caught up in a much more complicated position than she had first bargained for.
As noted, Spare Parts: Episode 1 has relatively short gameplay. The game only spans up to 36,000 words that only lasts for three hours long. However, since it is just a part of a series, this makes the succeeding chapters much more exciting to play. It tackles serious topics, such as processing trauma, the cost of being born, and caring for others in a fun way. Moreover, it also explores the topic of LGBT relationships.
Short but fun
Overall, Spare Parts: Episode 1 is an enjoyable role-playing game. As the first episode, it sets a fairly good start for the upcoming episodes. It has a funny yet intriguing story, complete with equally-endearing characters. It is also visually appealing and easy to read. The way the story of the game flows, you will be excited about the episodes to come.
