A free easy-to-use mobile video editor

Soloop is a free video-editing mobile app that enables you to easily edit short videos you’ve recorded. Developed by lingge LLC, this multimedia app is designed to be easy to use for those on mobile devices. You can edit videos and images taken by your camera or those simply transferred to your mobile gallery. Saving files from this will add a watermark, though, and you must purchase a subscription to get rid of it.

How do I use Soloop?

Soloop has a straightforward user interface, even though its orientation is locked to Portrait Mode. At the top half of the screen, you’ll see the preview window. The top-left corner has the Exit button that discards your project, while the top-right corner has the Save button. Meanwhile, the bottom half of the screen contains the timeline and main controls, which are three buttons: Play, Create New Project, and Undo.

To start editing, tap the Plus symbol of “Create New Project” in the middle and choose whether you want a video or a photo to edit. If the gallery is empty, you’ll have to go to this app’s settings and manually allow your storage to be accessed under Permissions, as it won’t ask you at first launch like other apps. Then, simply choose your file and the aspect ratio you want it to be in.

The default output file here is in video format so the images you choose will become a slideshow file that you can stitch together. By scrolling through the timeline, you can also change the Plus button into the Cut tool to split sections of the file. There are various other functions available, as well. You can add filters, do cropping, put in stickers and text, insert audio, and many more.

Needs more polish

All in all, Soloop is a handy little editor that’s easy to use if you’re on mobile. While it doesn’t have functions that would make things more convenient for you—such as an automatic prompt for storage access and the option to switch to Landscape Mode—it still works as intended for any type of user. The only annoying thing is that the banner ads sometimes block the very top of the screen.
