A quirky puzzle game for PC

Snakebird is a premium puzzle title for PC made by Noumenon Games. Inspired by the classic snake game of decades past, players will try to solve challenging puzzles by utilizing the unique characteristics of the titular Snakebird in various stretchy and twisty ways.

Looks-wise, Snakebird shares some visual similarities with Angry Birds. When it comes to gameplay, though, it’s more akin to a modern snake game like Snake Pass. It features multiple zones, all with their unique puzzles to solve, as well as a non-linear world map for freedom of exploration.

What is it all about?

In Snakebird, you play as, well, a Snakebird, a chimera-like creature that was born from the melding of a snake and a bird. As you would expect, it carries with it the characteristics of both animals, with the dextrous flexibility of the former, combined with the striking and feathery exterior of the latter. The game has a vibrant and cartoony presentation, but its puzzles are far from being simple or easy.

You guide your snakebirds through various obstacles to reach a portal at the end of each of its more than 50 levels. Along the way, you will come across fruits that will extend the length of your creatures and make it a little easier to overcome certain segments. Also, all of them have to make it safely through. If one dies, you’ll have to start over again.

You get unlimited redo’s, though, so you can try until you figure out which route or strategy would be best for you. One thing to keep in mind before you dive into this game is that it comes with a rather steep learning and difficulty curve. You might find it hard to familiarize yourself with and get used to its physics and game mechanics.

The classic snake game, reimagined

Overall, Snakebird is a great puzzler that draws inspiration from one of the greatest classic games of all time and puts its own twist to the formula. The end result is a fun and challenging title that is worth giving a try. That is, if you don’t mind the steep learning curve. The game looks great, it runs well, and it’s highly recommended.
