Bring your social media and networks together

Skimmer is a beta program designed to be a hub for your online social networks. It supports Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and Blogger. If you have accounts with any of these services you can enter your details on Skimmer and it’ll synchronize with them.

Skimmer uses Adobe Air, so you’ll need to download that to get started. The process is really simple and Skimmer will be running in no time. Set up requires choosing the accounts you would like to feed through Skimmer. The quality of integration is mixed. Twitter is great through Skimmer, whereas Blogger and Facebook feel a little half hearted.

With Blogger, you can only read the titles of your blog posts, not the post itself, which is annoying. Facebook integration allows you to read your friend’s status updates and write your own, but you can’t comment on your friends directly from Skimmer.

There is also a profile in Skimmer, which is a page you can personalize with any of your social network accounts. This feels unfinished, and it’s unclear what the purpose of a special profile for Skimmer is!

As a social network news feed, Skimmer works quite well, it’s just a shame that not all the social networks function very well in it. As this is just a beta version, we can expect further development of the unfinished parts
