The 2D cult classic is back!
More than a decade after its first release, the popular 2D arcade-style beat-em-up game is back. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, first-released in 2010, is once again available on various platforms. However, unlike the past release, the new title bundles all of the original downloadable content and introduces an online and local co-op mode. With this, you can enjoy the game—and combine skills—with three of your friends in awesome mini-games.
The gang is back
In case you don’t know, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a game based on the comics and not the movie. It stars a guy named Scott Pilgrim, who wishes to win the affections of Ramona Flowers. The attraction is mutual, but Ramona has her seven evil ex-boyfriends in the picture. Scott must battle them to be with Ramona. This serves as the basis for the seven core laid out on a Super Mario World-style map.
The game plays like a classic game, with seven bosses that need defeating. Like Streets of Rage or Double Dragon, you wander around streets and movie sets while you jump, kick, and punch your way through waves of enemies. It’s satisfying and enjoyable but the game lacks precise hitboxes and weighty attacks. To reach the end, you’ll need stat-boosting items from stores scattered throughout each stage. You can collect snacks for your health and buy clothes and accessories to up your defense.
There are various playable characters other than Scott and Ramona. As you level up, you can unlock unique abilities that can help you with the fight. You can also team up with three friends, locally or online. This complete edition includes many extras that were once DLC. You can now enjoy Knives Chau and Wallace Wells add-on packs. There are also extra modes—Zombie Hordes, Boss Rush, and Battle Royale—that provide a nice respite from the core game.
Still the same fun
Despite its long absence from the video game scene, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World came back swinging and still has the same old charm that appealed to its audience in the past. It is the fun game that players have come to love, but with the addition of mini-games and co-op gameplay. It is not as action-packed as other fighting games, but it can hold its own as an excellent brawler.
