Free Christmas game for Commodore Amiga users
Santa Run 2020 is a platformer game exclusively available for Commodore Amiga devices—a family of personal computers introduced back in 1985. Created by mcgeezer, this free-to-play Christmas game’s mechanics are simple. You will only have to take control of Santa and leap from roof to roof to successfully deliver presents down the chimneys until you reach the end of the street. This is a score-based game that gives a nice reward if you’ve won the challenge.
Looks simple but difficult to pull off
This retro game offers extremely hard gameplay that you wouldn’t expect because of the simplicity of its mechanics. Although it offers two game modes that allow you to choose between easy and hard difficulty modes, the intense challenge is still there even in the easier levels. It is quite difficult to find the perfect timing and balance to drop the gifts at the exact chimney point.
In easy mode, you are given 150 gifts to throw into the chimneys and 10 special elf jumps while in the ‘hard mode’ you are only required to deliver 100 gifts. However, the special elf jumps you can use are lessened into half of what you can utilize in the easy game mode. Either a joystick or control pad in port 2 of your Commodore Amiga A1200, A4000, CD32, or above is necessary to play this game.
To leap from one roof to another, just start pressing on the ‘Fire button.’ One tip is you can also jump when you’re not on a roof however, doing so will use up your special elf jump. Bear in mind that you must use elf jumps in moderation to avoid not landing on a roof. On the other hand, the left and right buttons will help you to throw gifts into the chimneys. When you send chained gifts without anything missing, you’ll be able to build score multipliers.
A good addition to your Amiga collection
Santa Run 2020 is a fun Christmas-themed game to add to your Amiga games collection. If you are up for a true platformer challenge, this free-to-play game could serve it to you. Its easy mode can’t even be considered as ‘easy’ especially for first-time players. The game mechanics and controls are fairly simple but, picking the right time and balance to throw in gifts into the chimneys will really test your skills as well as strategy.
