A total conversion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dead Air Mod is a stand-alone mega-mod for the bleak FPS sandbox series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat. This game utility is built on top of the fan-upgraded OpenXRay engine and uses Call of Chernobyl’s massive world map. It changes all the aspects of the game, including the graphics, audio, and special effects. Various gameplay and AI features are also changed. If you can’t get enough of the vanilla game, the mod offers an uncompromising but accessible survival sandbox.
What the mod offers
The Dead Air mod evolves from ideas of Call of Misery—the modder’s previous project. But while it was a big influence, the mod does way more than ratchet up the difficulty. It prioritizes the development of the game’s engine potential, attention to detail, and complexity of gameplay. It also addresses both the quality and quantity of all content.
The graphical overhaul is the change players will notice most of all. The mod comes with a color balance sliders and adjustable post-production options. With this, the player has the choice to liven up the game’s dreary scene or tone down the colors further to make it gloomier. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dead Air Mod did not add any new content, so the campaign will be the same as the vanilla game. But it does tinker with the basic systems. For one, the melee has been expanded with more weapons. Stealth also has been rebalanced so that the player’s stealthiness depends on the weight of the gear, active light sources, and weather.
This revamped stealth also ties into the mod’s audio rework that realistically echoes and muffles sounds. However, while it has a lot of improvements, Dead Air is still unpolished and comes with bug issues. It also lacks important items, such as medkits and ammo. It is also prone to crashes and is less fluid, unlike another mod called Anomaly.
Experience the game in a new light
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dead Air Mod is a nice addition to fans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat. The mod improves the game’s visuals a lot and even lets you customize the level of the bleakness of the map. It also improved the gameplay by balancing the stealthiness and improving the basic system. it still needs a few improvements, but overall, it is a mod worth checking out.
