An open-world crime game set in medieval times
Rustler is an open-world game where the player takes on the role of a thug in a medieval setting. The game is a top-down shooter that features a wealth of pop culture references and off-beat humor. The game features themes of violence.
The developers of Rustler explicitly state the original Grand Theft Auto games as a source of inspiration for this game. However, the theme and setting are more akin to something like Mordhau. There are multiple game modes to try in the game.
Experience feudal injustice
Rustler does not attempt to be a historically accurate game. Instead, the game focuses on providing an enjoyable — even cartoonish — experience of medieval life. The player can compete in tournaments, hunt witches, take part in the Inquisition, and more. The player can roam around the world as they please, encountering all manner of characters along the way.
Retro-inspired gameplay
The game features 3D graphics but takes place from a top-down perspective, reminiscent of those original Grand Theft Auto games that inspired it. It also takes inspiration from the gameplay structure of those games, with less focus on the story than in modern games and more focus on quests. Though there is a story for players who want to experience it.
A fun, detailed game with bugs
While Rustler will almost certainly appeal to fans of the original GTA games more, players who enjoy humor in their games should also find something to like about this. Unfortunately, more than a few players have reported the game to be buggy in places and poorly designed in others, such as the way the save menu is handled.
