Running in circles has never been so much fun
Running Circles is an addictive free to play game, which could be the spiritual successor to Flappy Bird, as it also has that quick-fire ‘just one more go’ gameplay that makes it hard to put down.
Endless Circles
In Running Circles, you control a character who zips around the outside and inside of circles, and can jump between different circles. There are gems to collect, plus enemies and obstacles to avoid, all done with single-tap controls. It’s fast, and requires quick reflexes. Of course, simply touching an enemy or obstacle means game over. Success in Running Circles is getting further than your previous game.
The longer you survive, the faster the game gets, and the trickier enemies become. You have to feel ‘in the zone’ to get far, and failure is always just a split second away.
Running Circles also has a competitive multiplayer mode. You don’t compete at the same time, instead you see who can earn the most points in a game. What’s great about this mode is that you can request a rematch with anyone you play against, which can result in some serious rivalries building up!
Inside and out
The game is free to download and play, but there are optional micro-payments that allow you to instantly unlock new characters and more. These can also be unlocked using in-game currency – the gems you collect – but micropayments are obviously quicker.
The single tap control flips your character from the inside to the outside of the circle it is on (and visa-versa), plus it is also used to jump between the circles. Running Circles has minimalist controls, but they are effective. Its graphics are similarly minimalistic, but this helps them be clear and easy to understand at high speed!
Viscious cirles
While it shares the single tap gameplay and frustration of Flappy Bird, Running Circles is no clone. Now, as I said, the game is hard to put down, which is what I had to do to write this review, so if you’ll excuse me…
