New alternative music app

When it comes to the field of online music, Spotify and Apple Music are kings. Both multimedia software offer not only a huge library of music but other features that appeal to its users. Sure, there are other music apps available, but many still prefer these two for their daily music fix. Resso is yet another app to play in the field. Created by ByteDance, the brains behind TikTok, this app offers more than music streaming. The app blends music streaming, social networking, and user-generated content. With this, users can express themselves and connect with others through their favorite tracks.

Music meets social media

Loosely put, Resso is like a mix of Spotify, TikTok, and Instagram. It lets you listen to music, upload short music videos and GIFs, and post comments on individual songs in conversation threads. It is essentially a social network for music. With this, you can connect with other users who like the same playlist as you. On top of that, Resso also provides synchronized lyrics of the tracks you listen to, so you could sing-along whenever you like. The app even lets you add lyrics to the song if you think there are missing or incorrect lines.

However, beyond these, Resso works almost the same as Spotify and Apple Music. After you log in—using either your Facebook or Google ID—you select the language you’d like your music in. The app will then prompt you to choose at least three artists you like, so it can curate a personalized playlist—known as Daily Mix—for you. You can select more artists if you like. To make your streaming engaging, you can upload Vibes—either a short video or GIF—to accompany the track you are playing.

With all its exciting features, Resso can be a big player in the music streaming. It marries two familiar ecosystems to offer something engaging and entirely fresh. More, these features do not affect the app’s easy usability. However, users could do with a data-light version, and the music library can be more diversified to attract more users.
