Play Ethan Winters’ second rescue mission
Resident Evil Village is a first-person action horror video game that lets you continue the story of Ethan and Mia from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Developed by Capcom, this is the eighth major installment in the popular survival horror video game franchise, Resident Evil. It is also the direct sequel to RE7, with Ethan returning as the protagonist, but looks similar to the setting and game mechanics of Resident Evil 4.
Who is the main character in Resident Evil Village?
Resident Evil is a zombie survival horror shooter video game series and media franchise created and owned by Capcom. With its first game released back in 1996, this series popularized and defined the survival horror genre—even bringing back zombies to pop culture fame. It spawned various other types of media, such as live-action films and comic books, and had experimented with different gameplay mechanics over the years.
Resident Evil Village, also known as “Resident Evil 8”, follows up on both of RE7’s storyline and gameplay. This gameplay style had been a divergence from the action-shooter genre of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 and instead, had been a return to the original games’ survival horror focus on exploration. In this title, you play in the first-person perspective again and control Ethan Winters, the protagonist of the previous game.
The story is set a few years after the events of RE7, wherein Ethan and Mia are now living peacefully in a snowy remote location. However, the reappearance of someone familiar to the couple sets off a chain of events that lead to a whole new nightmare. Much of the gameplay is the same, but the inventory system here is notably similar to RE4’s. The graphics have been thoroughly enhanced, though.
Try the online multiplayer side-game
Resident Evil Village may be continuing a previous story but that doesn’t make it any less stellar when compared to past RE games. It offers a whole new intriguing plot in an altogether-different setting and showcases beloved gameplay mechanics, as well as gorgeous graphical overhauls from the RE Engine. Plus, the online multiplayer game, Resident Evil Re:Verse, is included when you purchase this one. The only downside is that the playable Maiden demo isn’t available on PC.
