Humans Versus Extra-Dimensional Monsters in this Survival Shooter
Remnant: From the Ashes is a thrilling game that combines third-person action, survival shooter, and role-playing. This game is set in a world torn apart by the arrival of monsters from another dimension. Players will have to attempt to survive alongside other humans.
Often compared to the Souls games, Hellgate: London, The Surge, Gears of War, and The Division, Remnant: From the Ashes is an action-packed game that takes place in our world. However, the sudden attack by extra-dimensional creatures forced us to think of other ways to fight. You can tackle the difficult road ahead by going solo or getting your multiplayer crew.
Worlds Apart
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters that you would commonly find in dark fantasy realms, you have no choice but to use the common weapons found in our world against their might and magic. Humanity, fortunately, has the power to open portals to other realms and alternate realities. Using these new places, you can investigate where these evil creatures came from, find more resources to keep surviving, and fight back to reclaim what the world had lost.
In terms of storyline, Remnant urges you to figure out how to stop this ancient evil called The Root, but while the voice-acting is superb and the atmosphere of all the places you can explore really hypes up the challenges ahead, it can be a bit hard to care about your main story mission.
Fresh Content Every Time
Remnant offers a variety of diverse worlds that you can visit and conquer. The game has four unique realms with different environments and types of monsters that will fight you. Thanks to Remnant’s procedural generation of zone maps and AI director for mob encounters, players won’t ever find their quests boring. Each of these realms will also drop various types of sweet loot that you’ll need to craft new items and weapons, so it’s worth it to learn how to take down an enemy and dominate a zone. You need to be extra careful when exploring, however, since even low-level grunt monsters can easily kill you if you aren’t paying attention. It’s a difficult challenge that presents rewards well worth it.
Lock N’ Load
Perhaps the best thing about Remnant: From the Ashes is its combat system. You don’t have magic, but you get to shoot monsters with your trusty guns. Remnant also allows you to switch your playstyle around smoothly and without a stumble. You will mostly use guns, but you’ll be relying on your melee weapons eventually. Once you reach this level, fighting will be a lot easier since the button for melee weapons is separate from your guns. You won’t need to switch to it during a fight. Coupled with your chosen starting weapons, armor, and weapon mod, the combat can be difficult with the learning curve. But it can be ultimately satisfying when you get into a great rhythm.
It gets even better with co-op, wherein you can play with up to two other players to team up and take down the hard-hitting bosses. No need to worry about your inventory either, as while Remnant can be difficult, it’s lenient with death and won’t punish you with lost items like in the Souls games. Overall, Remnant: From the Ashes offers an engaging and challenging gameplay experience that combines elements of exploration, combat, and cooperative gameplay.
Play it For the Rush
As a compelling narrative, Remnant: From the Ashes can’t compete well with others in its genre. However, as an exciting survival shooter game, this title can be loads of fun, especially when played with your friends. The loot system is interesting when you look at how unique the different zones can be. However, once you try to use them, you may find that it’s not all that intuitive. The combat can be addicting, though, and may become the reason you’ll replay it after your first and second run.
