Gorgeous Indian-themed adventure game
Raji: An Ancient Epic is a free-to-download action game for mobile devices from Netflix, Inc. It’s a third-person fantasy RPG adventure taking inspiration from Indian folklore for its narrative. In it, players will take on the role of a lone girl tasked with fighting against a demonic invasion of the human realm.
Similar to Undecember and Grimvalor, Raji: An Ancient Epic takes place in a mythical fantasy world that takes players through unique locations and battles against demons and creatures. What makes it stand out is its beautiful graphics that are entirely hand-painted and based on the Pahari art style.
Save the human realm
In Raji: An Ancient Epic, you play as Raji, a young circus performer who was separated from your little brother, Golu, as the war of gods versus demons rages on. You have now been chosen to be humanity’s defender against the demonic invasion. Fight your way through hordes of enemies and defeat the demon lord Mahabalasura as you look for your lost sibling.
To help you on your grand and perilous journey, the gods have bestowed you with a multitude of weapons and elemental powers to use against your foes in this action game. The slick and fast-paced combat is complemented by various platforming challenges that will have you jump, climb, and wall-run your way through its many unique locations and backdrops from ancient India.
Everything is presented through hand-painted textures and 3D renders using the Pahari art style that further illustrates the beauty and danger of the ancient world you will be exploring and getting to know more about. One thing to know before starting is this game is exclusive to Netflix subscribers. You won’t be able to play it without an account and paid subscription.
A perilously mystifying journey
If you’re a fan of action-adventure games, then Raji: An Ancient Epic is pretty much a must-play. Its intriguing story and setting coupled with solid combat and a beautiful art style make for a memorable experience worth having. It’s a game that’s exclusive to Netflix subscribers, though, but you probably are one already, so it’s not much of an issue. Highly recommended.
