Online radio without leaving your browser

Radiotic is a Firefox add-on that allows you to browse a selection of online radio stations and listen to them from right inside your browser.

The radiotic interface is clean and clear. Largely controlled by right-clicking on the icon in the bottom toolbar, you’ll be able to browse the free internet radio stations available, choose one to listen to and, if the station supports it, get more information about the track currently streaming.

radiotic also has a handy function called Radio Monitor. This tool appears in a separate window and allows you to view the songs currently being played on your favorite radiotic stations so you can browse them before deciding which one to listen to.

Unfortunately, radiotic also has a few problems. Not all stations worked, not all provided song information and not all can be streamed in the browser – some had to be opened in Windows Media Player and we couldn’t find any options to change this to a better player, such as VLC.

Online radio is great and we really wanted to like radiotic. As the radiotic developers themselves admit, however, the software is still in the early stages of development, so we can expect a few problems. Hopefully future versions of radiotic will iron out the wrinkles and produce a top-class radio add-on.

It’s a great start, but radiotic has quite a way to go before it’s the perfect tool for online radio lovers.
