Free app for Indian farmers
PMKISAN GoI is a free mobile tool that allows you to access your account in the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative. Developed by NIC eGov Mobile Apps, this utility app enables you to register to the program, check your status regarding payments, read the requirements, and such. PMKISAN GoI is a simple app to use and straightforward in its interface. However, much of its features aren’t too great in functionality, and you’ll mostly just end up using the app as a status-checking portal.
The farm life is hard
PMKISAN is short for “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi”—also stylized as PM-KISAN—and GoI is “Government of India.” The PM-KISAN program is a central sector scheme meant for members of the Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs), granting them ₹6,000 per year in 3 installments as minimum income support. The government of India wanted to support farmers in growing healthy crops and avoiding going to moneylenders to just continue farming.
Farmers can’t easily travel to and fro to process their accounts, however. To answer this need, the PMKISAN GoI app was created. With this app, you can take care of your account under the PM-KISAN project. Opening the app shows a simple user interface with six options. “Beneficiary Status” is pretty much just that, enabling you to check that status. “Edit Aadhaar Details” lets you correct your Aadhaar number. “Status of Self-registered Farmer” shows your registration status and payments to make.
“New Farmer Registration” is where you’ll go to self-register. “About the Scheme” talks about the PM-KISAN in length. Lastly, “PM-Kisan Helpline” is the Contact Us section. However, despite how easy things look, the mobile app actually doesn’t work that well and isn’t too intuitive. You can’t easily edit your information, and there are details that the app doesn’t show.
