Customize ringtones and add new system sounds to iPhones

Pimp Your Sound is an app that allows you to download iPhone ringtones and alert tones for free. You can use Pimp Your Sound to create your own iPhone ringtones too.

There are dozens of tracks, loops and sound effects included within Pimp Your Sound, and all are free to download. Navigating through the different audio is quite pain-staking though, since you need to scroll down the whole list of tracks, rather than having separate tabs for each of the categories.

You can preview a tone in Pimp Your Sound just by tapping on its name, though it can often take a while to load the file. Tracks can be favorited by tapping the star icon next to the name. You can then store the ringtones you’ve selected by tapping the ‘Save’ button.

Although you won’t find much ‘recognized’ audio content, the quality of the music loops and sound effects in Pimp Your Sound is pretty good. You’re sure to find something you like whatever your taste is.

Applying the ringtones and alert tones to your iPhone is quite a labored process unfortunately. Since you can’t download tones and apply them directly from Pimp Your Sound, you need to connect your device to iTunes, and transfer the audio files via the ‘File Sharing’ option which appears under the ‘Apps’ tab in ‘Devices’.

The Ringtone Maker within Pimp Your Sound is an excellent feature that makes it very easy to create ringtones from music stored on your iPhone – or by recording sound directly through the app. Pimp Your Sound lets you select the part of the track you want to use as the tone. You can alter the pitch or even reverse the track and play it backwards.

Pimp Your Sound also includes a Sound Theme Maker. This feature allows you to set different pieces of audio for different iPhone alerts and save them. Again, the tones aren’t applied instantly and need to be synced through iTunes.
