A collection of puzzle games for Playdate
Pictode Collection is a free puzzle game created by independent developer Visual Other. It is a collection of mini-games that was specifically made for the Playdate handheld video game console. All of them have a similar design aesthetic to them, but each one features distinct gameplay.
Just like with OneBit Invaders and Yoshimi Yahtzee, Pictode Collection is one of the games that has been developed for the newly-released Playdate portable game console and takes advantage of the platform’s open nature and letting users easily sideload any third-party titles that they want to play onto it.
Mini puzzle games for the Playdate
Retro gaming has steadily been making a comeback through the years, with big-name manufacturers and various independent startups looking to carve a piece of the market pie. One such example is the video game development company turned hardware maker Panic Inc., and its handheld video game console Playdate. Thanks to the platform’s open nature, games like Pictode Collection can make their existence known to gamers who bought the device.
The collection consists of five mini puzzle games you can play and comes with three original songs that you can cycle through. To give you an idea of what you can expect when you give it a try, Pairs is an infinite shape-matching puzzler, Gravity is a unique take on the classic Tetris Attack, and Mimed is a sliding and rather challenging puzzle game.
The last two offer rather distinct experiences. Sort is another unique take on the Rubik’s Cube, of all things, and Pchnk is a mystery that you have to try out for yourself. It’s a fun and solid collection of games overall, and the only things that you should be aware of would be the occasional crashes and freezes ups that happen every now and then.
Cute and charming
The Playdate is a little game handheld that a lot of retro game fans already adore and love. With cute and charming titles like Pictode Collection being made for it, the future of the portable console is looking bright. If you bought one for yourself, be sure to check this release out. It’s simple but fun and is a worthy addition to your … collection.
