Create a mosaic of favorite photos

There are many ways to organize your photos and I find that iPhoto does a great job whether it’s for a presentation or an album.

However, one thing iPhoto can’t do is tile images which is where PhotoTiles comes in. PhotoTiles is an application you use to create a tiled image of images or movie frames in various dimensions and sizes. On setup, you’re prompted whether you want to drag photos into the PhotoTiles window to compile them into a tile formation or you can set your preferences first.

After the program is configured by specifying a few options, simply drag a folder of images or movies onto the application, or its main window. The problems start herein, however. PhotoTiles appears to process your images before suddenly asking you to save your tiled images. Once saved, nothing happens and when you double click on your saved creation, all you get is a tiny thumbnail of each of your images tiles. Changing the size of the preferences doesn’t seem to solve this either. There’s doesn’t seem to be any clear solution to this and as a result, the end product is as good as worthless.

PhotoTiles could add a touch of elegance to your photos but it’s not clear how it’s supposed to work and the results you’ll achieve are likely to be so small that it’s not worth it.

* You can now drop a selection of image files from the Finder onto the application or main window to tile them, in addition to a folder of image files, movie file or PDF file. * The image quality is saved for the “Save” dialog window (for codecs that support image quality specification.
