Interactive and educational simulation-based software

Phet (otherwise known as Phet Interactive Simulations) is a series of programs designed to aid in higher-level education. They are specifically engineered to address subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and science. It was first released to the public in 2011 and since this time, it has been used by numerous educators from around the world.

Main Principles and Intentions

Phet is essentially designed to provide an interactive framework that students utilise within the virtual environment. Different programs are intended to be employed for different applications. However, the main areas of focus include homework, lecture demonstrations and work within the laboratory. Most simulations are comprised of between three and five students. Thus, they are highly targeted and they are able to address discrete needs. The majority of these simulations have been formatted around previously identified goals that could otherwise be difficult to achieve within traditional classroom settings.

Additional Details and Applications

Phet experts regularly evaluate the efficacy of their simulations as well as try to identify any areas that may need improvement. As this is an open programme partially sponsored by the United States government, it has received several grants since its inception. These include funds towards chemistry, donations involving ´everyday physics´ and even research based upon atomic theory.
