Rise up the military ranks, penguin style
Penguin Airborne is a game app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch that lets you chase other penguins to the ground in an all-out free-fall.
The object with Penguin Airborne is to get to the ground the quickest without actually splatting into it. It’s a fun contrast to Angry Birds, where you’re actually trying specifically to hit a target with your birds. Entirely touch screen activated, you play one of the the Penguin Airborne penguins who is free-falling against four other birds. Simply tap the screen to get started, wait for the countdown to end, and then tap the screen to jump once you’re prompted to “Go!” If you tap the screen too early, you’re caught in a block of ice you need to get out of, usually leaving you well in the other birds’ dust.
Activating your parachute with Penguin Airborne requires another simple tap. As you freefall, you collect points for style and grabbing star-shaped objects on the way down. Penguin Airborne’s first level gives you a hint on when to activate your parachute, while all other levels leave you guessing. If you don’t activate it in time, you end up hitting the ground with a thud. If you do manage to make it safely to the ground but in last place, a missile will swoop down and kill you anyway.
Penguin Airborne is a game of elimination. Every round kills off another bird. The last one standing rises up the ranks and gets to move on to the next level.
While fun, Penguin Airborne can get a little repetitive from time to time. Still, it’s a fun game to learn and definitely challenging to start out with.
Penguin Airborne is a fun, free-falling strategy game, enjoyable for all ages.
