A new social media platform
Parler is a free emerging social application for mobile. Like the social media platforms of today, it provides a means for users to share their thoughts on various topics without the fear of being de-platformed. More than a space to speak their minds, it also comes with other features that make the user experience unique. It allows you to moderate the content in your feed, so you can decide what you see and who you interact with. However, long-time social influencers will have to make a few adjustments as it is more hashtag-centric than other similar apps. Plus, the app is strict when it comes to the topics you post.
Stricter social platform
Design-wise, Parler will remind you of Twitter. The app has a feed that shows you the thoughts of those you follow, which you can upvote or echo—the equivalent of a retweet. It even has a character limit on posts, which is 1,000 characters—quite a bit longer than that of Twitter. However, even if you are a long-time Twitter user, there will still be a few adjustments that you need to use this app smoothly.
As noted, the hashtags here have more use than just boosting your posts. In this app, it is very crucial to your presence, similar to Tumblr. The search function only returns users and hashtags. With this, you need to use the right hashtag for other users to find you easily. Seeing as there are multitudes of hashtags available, gaining views for your posts will prove to be difficult. This also applies to those who are looking for posts and users to follow.
More than the strict use of hashtags, this platform is even stricter when it comes to posting. The app does not allow users to share posts about pornography, illegal drugs, and obscenity. Unlike Twitter and Facebook, which add warning labels on malicious content, this app bans users who break the rules. The same goes for those who post content that promotes false rumors. However, in contrast to the popular social network platform, user validation is easy. You only need to submit a validation form, and the app will immediately give you a badge.
Not quite there yet
For a new app, Parler has what it takes to compete with popular social media apps of today. It provides users with a new platform to share their thoughts. Moreover, it has quite a few features that make your time using the app unique. However, there are a few limitations and usability issues to the app that can stop you from switching. It also doesn’t help that this app is way behind when it comes to the number of users that you can communicate with.
