Your personal science library
Papers was built specifically for everyone working with journals and research papers as a means to search for more documents and keep them all well organized.
You’ll immediately notice the elegant interface, with its list of papers, groups and search engines on the left, search results and documents in the center, and a right-hand side dedicated to Help tools. Papers is particularly good at handling PDF documents.
Papers integrates dozens of research engines such as ACS Portal, Citeseer or Google Scholar. You can also add more as plug-ins. To keep your journals organized, you’ll find Papers is not unlike iTunes: smart groups can be created so that you don’t have to worry about what papers are stored in what folder.
The Help section in Papers is particularly thorough and having the forums integrated into the interface with tips and tricks available any time is really useful. The Help center itself provides lots of guides to fully master the program. You’ll be able to open multiple journals or search results in tabs, add comments and notes and even share documents easily with other people.
There aren’t a huge number of noticeable improvements in version 2 of Papers but many efforts have been aimed at making the importing and exporting of PDF documents much easier. However, some users may find that syncing with iPads is still very temperamental.
Papers is an excellent tool to search for journals and research papers and keep them well organized on your Mac. A must for scholars and researchers.
