When you start to paint, you don’t know what you will get. You just start with a blank sheet of paper and a pen or pencil, and you start to draw. You don’t know what shape your picture will take, so you can just draw a free-form shape.

You will get the picture you drew on the canvas, which you can then use as a stencil. You can now use the picture to draw on a sheet of paper.
