Become a virtual wolf
Pack Hunter is a free game that recreates the world of wolves. Playing as a wold, you have the job of hunting down prey, procuring food for your fellow wolves, and exploring new territory to take your pack.
Alongside the likes of WildCraft: Animal Sim Online 3D and Dog Simulator – Animal Life, the game fits into the genre of animal simulation. It is upfront in its portrayal of nature’s brutality, although the violence can be claimed as educational.
Hunt down prey
Pack Hunter puts you in control of an alpha wolf that must kill prey to feed his pack. Once you leave your cave, you’ll encounter deer and other animals. If you get close enough to a prey animal, a chase will begin. This culminates in a “power bar,” which you can push at the right moment to do maximum damage.
Grow your pack
Killing prey will cause you to level up and gain more power. You will also gain meat, which you can use to recruit new pack members. These will follow you around automatically, and when you catch a prey animal, each pack member will be given a chance to bite, greatly increasing your killing power.
A variety of prey
As you explore, you’ll reach new areas of territory with new animals to hunt. Deer, horses, bears, hippos, and giraffes turn up during the game. There are even boss enemies, including a gorilla and a giant moose. The hunting mechanics remain the same, but each animal has its own values in terms of speed and health.
A story of nature
Pack Hunter has some weaknesses, including the length it takes to travel and some glitchy water physics. But the game’s storyline, which follows the wolves as they search for new territory and eventually arrive in the realm of humans, pulls it along.
