Crush your enemies, beat your bosses and get gold!
There are three things that make a great mobile game: graphics that suit the small screen, an intuitive interface and addictive, simple gameplay. Nonstop Knight hits all three and does it in style, plus it’s free to play! This game develops at a steady pace, so you can play casually at first and get stuck into the action later. Both casual players and serious mobile gamers will find something rewarding in this fun, frantic game.
All the building blocks of classic mobile gaming
Within your first ten minutes of playing Nonstop Knight, you’ll have a good grasp of what to expect as the game unfolds. The system is simple and intuitive, starting you out with basic equipment and two power attacks, before leading on to special items, upgrades and abilities. The standard RPG system emerges pretty fast- defeat foes to collect rewards in order to defeat bigger foes and collect bigger rewards! Fortunately, there’s a variety of special abilities, enemies and levels to keep you hooked. The artwork of this game is well scaled to the small screen, keeping it simple enough to work on most devices, with a blocky style that many mobile games use, though some will find it too simplified.
Repetitive yes, but always fun and fast!
The name of Nonstop Knight is very fitting, as not only does your character literally keep running without you having to steer, but you could play for hours if you let yourself. Collecting new abilities is fun, as each one creates a new dynamic and has a unique animation. Using them is very easy, you simply tap the power you want to use at the bottom of the screen. You spend most of your time managing when to use these powers, as each has a cooldown period and can leave you vulnerable. Buying these powers with in-game coins results in the standard freemium ecosystem, where you gather currency to obtain the skills and upgrades you want, but you can skip ahead by paying real money. Thankfully this is optional and those with young children can disable in-app purchasing. The cartoon graphics of Nonstop Knight embrace the limitations of mobile screens and are designed with them in mind. In other words, the game offers bold shapes and colors, with simplified but high quality artwork. Better still, the camera hovers at the right height to see the action nice and clearly.
A game that will make your head spin!
This game is not without flaws. The designers have taken the name so literally that you never get to stop and rest, only pausing to access menus or read a mini-cut scene. Even your inventory panel only slows the action down! This adds to the addictive nature of the game but can be frustrating if you like to stop and examine your inventory or look around. There’s no exploration element, but you’re generally too focused on smashing skeletons to care. The variety of enemies and moves go a long way to making this on-rails game feel more varied.
