Experience retro-futuristic battles in Neon Chrome
Neon Chrome is a fast-paced top-down twin-stick shooter with an 80s-influenced cyberpunk look and feel. In the game, you and up to three friends take on wave after wave of enemies in a series of levels, blasting your way through fully-destructible scenery to make it to the end and thwart the plans of the evil Overseer. Along the way, you’ll upgrade not only weapons but also your own body, adding cybernetic replacements to boost your stats.
Take to the retro-future streets
If you like twin-stick shooters, you’ll find most of Neon Chrome pretty familiar in terms of its gameplay. Like all new entries in an established genre, this indie effort succeeds based on its innovation. The cyber-chambers that allow you to upgrade yourself put a fun twist on character advancement mechanics, while the pumping electronic soundtrack and retro-futuristic neon and shadows evoke the cyberpunk aesthetic of the 1980s and 1990s. Many of the game’s features move it in a roguelike direction, although it’s not a roguelike as such. If you’re a veteran player of this kind of game, you’ll be used to the high difficulty and learning curve, but newcomers to the genre might be a little more intimidated.
