2D survival game for PC
Nearly Dead is a free 2D action video game for PC by the independent developer, Mono Software. It is an open-world survival game wherein players must fight for their survival after a demon from another dimension turns the majority of humanity into zombies and undead creatures.
Nearly Dead is an action shooter game that has some similarities with another game called Alien Shooter 2, particularly the top-down perspective that they both feature. Players will meet other survivors, build bases, and gather resources as they try to survive the apocalypse that has befallen the world.
How do I play Nearly Dead?
When you start a New Game in Nearly Dead, you will immediately proceed with character creation. Going beyond the usual options, you can pick an occupation, such as a doctor, police officer, or firefighter. Each one provides unique class-specific benefits during gameplay. There is also a trait system that you can choose from to provide passive bonuses like increase mobility or strength.
Being a survival game, you start with very little and you will have to scavenge for food and resources as you pay attention to your health, hydration, and stamina. For combat, there are various melee and ranged weapons and equipment that you can find in houses, buildings, and other locations all over the map. There are skills, too, but they serve only to boost Construction and Crafting abilities in the game.
Lastly, Nearly Dead uses a line of sight system and visibility mechanics in its core gameplay. It simply means that your view is limited to an arc, and you will need to constantly scan your surroundings for objects or enemies. Do note that the game is still in the early stages of development. Hence, bugs like some skills not working or item malfunctions are to be expected.
A surprising amount of gameplay depth
Nearly Dead comes as a bit of a pleasant surprise. For the type of game that it is, there is a surprising amount of depth to its core gameplay. From the occupations and traits system to the extensive weapon and gear selection, and its visibility mechanic, this top-down 2D open-world survival shooter punches above its class. It’s a game that you should definitely keep tabs on.
