Mortal Kombat 11
is an action game by NetherRealm Studios. The fighting game follows Raiden as he swears to protect Earthrealm from all its enemies, beginning with Shinnok. His actions inspire Kronika – the Keeper of Time – to rewrite history and erase Raiden’s interference. This time-bending narrative allowed developers to add fan-favorite characters, new modes, harder challenges, and more customization options into the game. So much so that the developers have created the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack, a fast-pass game utility for players who want to access additional characters, skins, and gear. The pack has had a rough start in terms of accessibility and gameplay but, fans will be pleased on what they will find
A former boss
Making his return to the MK universe is Shang Tsung. Fans will recognize him from the Mortal Kombat series where he serves as the final boss. This time around, the powerful and deadly sorcerer serves as Mortal Kombat 11’s Krypt guide. Gamers will be pleased with his overall appearance and voice acting, but the character’s gameplay feels limited as its dependent on Krushing blow damage. He still has his iconic shape-shifting skills, but tournament variations leave out his most exciting moves. Nonetheless, Shang Tsung’s ability to morph into his opponents can be used by players who have extensive knowledge of other fighters.
An unlikely comeback
Besides Shang Tsung, the Kombat Pack offers other NetherReal favorites like Sindel and Spawn. The one DLC character fans didn’t know how to react to was Nightwolf. The Native American warrior made his debut all the way back in Mortal Kombat 3 but hasn’t made much of an impact in terms of the game’s storyline. His lack of influence doesn’t make him a lame fighter, though. In fact, he offers one of the best offensive blows in MK11. He utilizes his ax to deliver a visually brutal and incredibly effective overhead strike, while his rising tomahawk move can be used twice in one combo to deliver grave damage to his opponents. But what really sets Nightwolf apart from other characters is his companions. As an ode to his heritage, developers have outfitted him with several animal spirits that make him – almost – indefensible.
Nightwolf’s offerings are nothing short of awesome, but his comeback was a rocky one. The DLC character was inaccessible to some platforms upon his release. The issue was immediately addressed by WB games and was available to all Kombat Pack users a day after the scheduled launch.
A blast from the past
On top of additional character offerings, the Kombat Pack gives long-time fans a treat with the Klassic Arcade Skin pack integration. The one that stands out the most is the return of Sonya Blade’s green and white spandex. Just like Nightwolf, the iconic look came all the way from MK3.
