Complete your monster transformation
Monsters Lab – Freaky Running is a free action game that leaves you in charge of creating the ultimate monster. This running game features some of the most popular pop culture monsters such as Huggy Wuggy and Siren Head. Avoid obstacles, get all upgrades, and see your monster be the worst it can be–all before the time runs out.
Its aesthetics and gameplay are instantly recognizable, together with countless other running games flooding the mobile game market. Props for its unique concept though, making it on par with Investment Run and Weapon Evolution in trying to create a catchy entry.
Making the most of the genre
For some players, Monsters Lab – Freaky Running will come across as unoriginal. It features the same brightly-colored designs, a single platform where you have to steer your character through, and a couple of gates that could upgrade or downgrade your monster. At the end of the stage, though, is a boss fight that pits you with another monster. If you’re a fan of pop culture monsters, this is the game for you.
The developers of this game use a variety of monsters for you to unlock and evolve. From the classics like the Marshmallow Man or a giant mandragora to the more modern ones like those from Poppy Playtime and Siren Head. What makes this game weird and enjoyable is that you can mash these monsters up, getting one arm from a monster and a leg from another.
It’s a game that lets you play as a mad scientist, although you can only see your creation at the end of the level. Also, while it’s understandable that ads help indie developers earn from their works, this game takes it a bit too far. Every level has full-screen ads that need at least five seconds before you can close them, some of them have to be watched in full.
A monster-filled pastime
Despite its seemingly unoriginal game development style, Monsters Lab – Freaky Running sets itself apart from all its other clones thanks to the unique experience of mashing different monsters together and seeing what you’ve made at the end of each level. Its large pool of starting monsters gives you virtually unlimited possibilities as you complete each stage. If you can put up with frequent ads, then you’ll enjoy this game.
