Don’t stop running – or shooting!
Monster Dash is a perpetual motion action game where the fun never stops – literally.
As the hero, Barry Steakfries, you must blast all the monsters in your path without stopping, while jumping platforms and obstacles that get in your way. The action in Monster Dash only stops once you fall off a wall or lose all three of your hearts, which you lose if you run into a monster.
The controls in Monster Dash couldn’t be simpler: the button on the left is jump, and the button on the right is fire. You don’t need directional buttons because Barry will keep running in a straight line across the screen. It sounds simple but in truth, Monster Dash is fiendishly tricky to master. Getting your timing right is hard at first, especially given the fact that Barry picks up quite a pace the further along he gets.
It’s very difficult to get bored of Monster Dash. Every time you start a new game you’re placed in a random level. When you reach the 1,000 meter mark for that level, you teleport to another one.
Keep on running
The object of Monster Dash is to beat your furthest distance, while trying to get through all of the different worlds consecutively without falling off. You get to collect power-ups and extra hearts to aid you in your quest.
Monster Dash logs all manner of stats about your performances, so you get detailed breakdowns of your kills and distances over history. Integration with Open Feint allows you to see how you square up against other Monster Dash players online.
There’s very little we could fault in Monster Dash aside from calling for more weapons, characters and levels, though I’m sure we can expect all this in future updates. Perhaps the jump mechanic can be tweaked a little too, to give you more control over your jumps (i.e. distinguishing between smaller and bigger jumps).
All in all, Monster Dash is a frighteningly addictive iPhone game that will have you reaching for the ‘Play Again’ button every time.
