Relive the iconic Metal Slug experience
Metal Slug Warfare Demo *Megadrive* is a free, fan-made action game that brings the iconic Metal Slug experience to your device. It faithfully recreates the 1996 shooter experience as originally developed for the SEGA Megadrive and Genesis gaming consoles.
However, take note that this is a ROM that requires a supported emulator for the mentioned consoles. Also, as a demo version, it doesn’t have all the levels from the original version recreated in this game. Still, it’s a great nostalgic experience as the emulated game nails the game mechanics and the design of the original.
A short trial version
To start Metal Slug Warfare Demo *Megadrive*, you’ll need an emulator like the multi-system SEGA emulator Fusion or the more dedicated Gens for Megadrive/ Genesis. Either way, you’ll use these programs to open the game file, which is in the BIN filetype. Once you’re set up, you can start playing as Marco, or Tarma for the second player. The controls for these emulators are intuitive, easy, and can be remapped.
Despite only featuring two levels, the ROM file captures the humor and fluid 2D gameplay that has become the trademark of the Metal Slug franchise over the years. The graphics accurately recreate those of the original. You can use standard weapons such as guns, grenades, and a knife for close range. Of course, the original game has fewer weapons compared to its sequels Metal Slug 3 or Metal Slug X.
If you’re looking to post high scores for your friends to beat, the demo ROM allows you to save your high scores in the game. However, it requires SRAM support, a feature that can be toggled on or off on most SEGA Megadrive and Genesis emulators. The game also incorporates a special ranking system that rates your performance based on the score–more kills, fewer deaths, and more prisoners rescued.
For your retro game library
If you already have an emulator and a game library for Megadrive/ Genesis, Metal Slug Warfare Demo *Megadrive* is a welcome addition. It faithfully recreates the original game, plus a bit more in terms of scoring and posting high scores. You can enjoy the original retro game by having the same graphics and gameplay mechanics, keeping even the funny character animations. Its value is in providing a nostalgic experience.
