A free app that teaches kids the alphabet
Merge Alphabet Evolution is a vaguely defined educational app that teaches kids what different letters look like. They are created in the form of letter-shaped monsters. The new monsters that generate will appear in the order they appear in the alphabet. For example, destroy the C’s and then it will generate Ds.
The game has similarities to Alphabet Combine: Merge Master and Merge Alphabet: Lord Run. However, it is a 2D alphabet game that only focuses on building familiarity with the shapes of English letters. It is a screen-tapping game but is better suited for ages five and up.
Tap and merge
You make in-game currency by tapping the letters that appear on the screen. You merge two of the same letters to create the next letter in the chain. If you run out of usable letters, you can buy the ones you want with your currency.
A casual game for kids
Several elements were removed prior to launch, from the various maps to different collectibles. As a result, this is a well-running and nicely optimized screen-tapping game, but it doesn’t have much replay value. Children may enjoy the challenge.
An indirect path to victory
This app is close to being a puzzle game because there is no way to directly combine creatures to reach the end. You have to use the in-game shop several times to get even halfway. If there were a way to get from start to finish without spending currency, then it could be viewed as a puzzle game.
Not a perfect learning tool
Even if viewed as simply an educational game, several of the letters have shapes that are obscured by their monster designs. Plus, the game gets so repetitive that kids will give up long before their monsters evolve to R and S.
