Escape from the madness
Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace is a Lovecraftian horror adventure game developed by Luckyhammer and published by Asmodee Digital. It is inspired by the award-winning app-assisted board game of the same name, featuring similar aesthetics, atmosphere, and presentation. However, Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace aims to provide users with a more expansive and intricate experience compared to the board game. Set in the 1920s, Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace follows three investigators as they try to uncover the mysteries shrouding the eponymous Mansion of Madness. Each investigator is equipped with their own unique skills and strengths that they must use to escape the horrors inside the mansion.
Cosmic and Creepy
This game is heavily inspired by the works of master horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, so users can expect a lot of cosmic, existential thriller themes encompassing the game. Although the video game borrows heavily from the original board game, the developers of Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace focused on three specific pillars that sets it apart from the board game while also improving and expanding upon it. These three pillars are the cosmic scale, the horror, and the madness. The developers have committed to creating a game that makes you feel like you are an insignificant part of a cosmic universe where horrors follow you wherever you go as you play the game, and letting you watch your character slowly descend into madness as you proceed. The size of the world is also larger than the board game, as you can go from Arkham to New Orleans, Louisiana trying to escape the terrors in the game. Of course, escaping the horrors is easier said than done in this game. All in all, if you’re a fan of cosmic horror games with huge inspiration from Lovecraft’s work, then Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace is definitely a title worth picking up.
