The famous Magicka returns in a free multi version that’s completely crazy
Magicka is back! The Swedish hack’n’slash known for its creative gaming system is back in a free version that will bring about countless fits of laughter. By incorporating multiplayer and MOBA elements to the formula of the original game, Magicka: Wizard Wars is definitely one of the most entertaining multiplayer games we’ve had the opportunity to play recently.
An online magicka with MOBA elements
After just a few minutes of playing Wizard Wars it’s easy to see that a competitive multiplayer mode is what was missing from the original Magicka. Two game modes are available: duel and arena. The duel mode lets you battle against another person in a best of three scenario; while the arena mode is more like a MOBA with different points to capture for each team.
It would all seem trivial if it weren’t for the tremendous possibilities the Magicka spells system has to offer along with numerous items you can combine. With friendly fire activated by default and the complex gaming system, you often find yourself attacking your own allies “by mistake” and watching them explode in front of your face. Magicka: Wizard Wars is fun, entertaining, and far from lacking strategy!
1 magician, 8 elements, endless possibilities
As in the original Magicka, Wizard Wars invites you to play as a magician who fights by combining the elements he has at his disposal. Using your keyboard, you will need to invoke these elements and combine them to yield unpredictable and sometimes hilarious results. Experiment and discover powerful new combinations!
Presentable but underwhelming
Having kept the original Magicka graphics engine, Wizard Wars can seem rather mundane (a bit dated) in terms of its visuals. The action however looks great and more importantly, the game retains the excellent physics of its game engine.
The perfect balance between MOBA and a party game, although still in its Beta version
Magicka: Wizard Wars isn’t finished yet. However it’s still a great game to get your hands on given that it’s free, although I must admit that the game experience still has a way to go.
However as it stands, this Beta version is amusing. With insane 1 on 1 battles and a crazy arena mode, Wizard Wars achieves a perfect balance between the strategic complexity of a MOBA and the compulsive laughter of a party game. A success!
