A powerful tool for checking the security of your networks
Your network connection is probably one of the most vulnerable aspects in the digital work today. After all, if you have several computers all connected to the same network, you won’t be able to keep track of what each of them is exactly doing. They might be doing some incredibly dangerous and reckless processes, and they might damage your entire network and system. Thankfully, the days when users are unable to monitor the activity of their networks are over. Now, there are security software like Look@LAN Network Monitoring that users can use to keep track of network activity.
Easy Install and Interface
One great thing about the Look@LAN Network Monitoring is that it doesn’t wait your time when it comes to installation. The installation process was incredibly swift and effortless. Being the standard installation process, all you have to do is download the installer file and run the executable file. After that, just click on the prompted options and wait for the program to install. Look@LAN Network Monitoring will run immediately.
Unfortunately, the interface isn’t very impressive. In terms of design, the Look@LAN Network Monitoring looks very outdated. It looks very much like it came directly from the 90s. Redesigning it to look more modern and professional would have been very beneficial to both the software and the users. Additionally, the interface has a lot of buttons and panels that have no explanation. For users who are adept with technology, they probably wouldn’t get lost. For the rest of the populace, however, this lack of help files and tips is a major negative. One last minor gripe is the annoying sound effects. They pop-up whenever you perform any task. It’s extremely grating, but since you can turn this feature off, it’s easy to live with.
Scanning and Security
Scanning your network using the software is actually pretty easy. Once you start the program, you’ll be prompted to choose the interface that needs to be scanned and when you’ve chosen, the scan will start at once. The scanning process itself varies in duration. Sometimes it takes just a few seconds, but it’s not uncommon to spend a few minutes waiting as well. The timer that reflects the time remaining before the scan finishes isn’t reliable either. That said, the network scans performed by this software are usually successful.
When the scans are done, the program will prompt a pop-up that displays the results of the scan. The software displays the round trip time, hostname, traceroute, and active services among others. Despite all of these features, you can only use this program for information purposes, and it won’t actually do anything for you.
Useful for Information and Security
It’s very important to make sure that your networks are secure, and you can’t do that if you don’t monitor your network. The Look@LAN may not have a lot to offer in terms of actual security, but that doesn’t mean it has no uses. It will come in handy for keeping track of your network.
