A quirky DND inspired adventure game

LlamaCarrot is a free adventure game that was created by an indie developer who goes by the name BleuLlama. Inspired by classic Dungeons and Dragons, players will take control of a Llama as they navigate through a maze to find a way out while avoiding getting eaten by a dragon residing within.

Just like with You Cannot Go Back! or Tochi, LlamaCarrot takes place inside dungeons that house various areas to explore. It features multiple paths that can possibly lead players towards items that can help them, safely through the exit, or directly to the dragon’s lair.

The path of least resistance

Taking inspiration from classic Dungeons and Dragons(DND) tabletop games, LlamaCarrot is basically a 10×10 grid dungeon adventure starring a Llama. In it, you’re trying to find your way out while avoiding various, including Plindle The Dragon trying to eat you, and a sneaky bat that would pick you up and drop you randomly. There are various items that will help you along the way, though.

The items in question are the hook and carrot. The former will help you out when you find yourself falling and getting trapped inside a pit. Meanwhile, the latter will serve as a sacrificial offering in your place if you preemptively encounter Plindle during your escape. You will see flashing icons that will guide you toward these items and be able to collect them again.

LlamaCarrot offers three levels of difficulty. L1 is the easiest of the bunch and would be ideal if you’re a beginner. L2 will have you start with the hook item, and L3 will be the most challenging, giving you no items to start with. Despite all of this, through, playthroughs typically last only a few minutes, so you might find it a little dull and repetitive after a while.

Carrot or Llama

If you’re a fan of classic Dungeon and Dragons games, LlamaCarrot will be an interesting little title worth checking out. It’s a unique take on the tabletop genre, with an unlikely protagonist. It’s quirky and quite challenging to play. It does lose its appeal after a while, but is fun to play all the same and would be best suited for quick play sessions.
