Magical dating sim game
Life After Magic is a free role-playing title by an indie developer who goes by the name Evee. It is a dating sim game that follows the stories of an all-female cast of magical users. It is set during the advent of the year 2000 or more people commonly referred to it as Y2K.
Just like Royal Order, Life After Magic features a magic theme for its story and gameplay. Compared to the former, though, it features a more vibrant, pastel art style and pixel graphics for its design, which adds to its charming appeal and light-hearted presentation.
Losing the magical touch
Life After Magic revolves around the story of Akiko, a heroine of the magic girl squad known as the Sentinels. As is part of life, things move forward, and after all the hero-saving business comes the time to grow up and become an adult. Now working at an ordinary retail job and feeling down, she must reignite her passion for life and regain the “magic” she lost.
Join her as she rekindles her friendships and reconnects with Ara, Jackie, Miranda, KJ, and Leez as you reminisce about the old Sentinel days. Bond and laugh as a group of jaded 20-somethings trying to look for meaning and purpose in your lives. There are plenty of stories to be shared with Life After Magic’s over 62,000 words of dialogue while tuning to the beat of 12 original tracks.
As if the pressure was not on enough, Y2K, the literal turn of the century, is nearly here, adding to Akiko’s anxiety-fueled days. Good thing you have a funky and quirky cat around to keep you company as you unlock one of the multiple endings that you like best. Do note that this game is still in active development as more content and paths are being planned.
Finding passion, meaning, and love
If you’re a 20-something yourself who likes magical girl things and dating games, Life After Magic is worth a look. It offers a charming and light-hearted experience that a lot of players will relate to. There are plenty of stories and dialogues to be had, and multiple endings to unlock. Plus, the art style just fits perfectly with its theme and setting. Recommended.
