LEGO-building adventure game for PC
LEGO Builder’s Journey is a premium adventure game for PC by developer Lego Brick Studio. It is an atmospheric puzzler in the world of LEGO. In it, players can engage in free-form puzzle-solving gameplay that will have them build various structures based on set instructions or follow their imagination.
Compared to other LEGO games like LEGO Worlds and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, which are more fast-paced and action-oriented, LEGO Builder’s Journey is more leisurely and takes on a more grounded approach to its gameplay. It lets players immerse themselves in the building experience at their own pace.
All about building
The concept of LEGO has changed and morphed through the years. It was a line of puzzle toys developed for children but has gradually built a fan base from adult hobbyists and enthusiasts in recent years. Then, the video games came out, and they were more focused on adapting themes and franchises while utilizing the distinct LEGO look. LEGO Builder’s Journey comes out of nowhere, and it changes everything.
Think of this game as the most “LEGO game” yet as the franchise going back to its conceptual roots. In it, a father and son duo go through dream-like adventures with block-building at the core. Connect and stack pieces together to help them through various platforming challenges. You can manipulate each block in any way as you overcome progressively harder levels with unique scenarios every time.
You also have a robot companion that you can guide through levels and provide you with LEGO pieces to help you solve puzzles. The only thing to be aware of is that the game is very short. An entire playthrough will only last a couple of hours even if you pace yourself. Given the nature of the gameplay, though, this could have been an intentional design choice by the developer.
A cathartic experience
Cutting straight to the point, if you’re a LEGO fan and you grew up playing with its classic puzzle-building toys, LEGO Builder’s Journey is pretty much a must-play. It’s beautifully designed, easy to play, and is just a relaxing experience from start to finish. It could be a bit longer, but it does not detract from the enjoyment you’ll get. Highly recommended.
