A fantastic modern take on Dungeon Master
Legend of Grimrock is a modern take on role playing classics like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder or Chaos Strikes Back. Four heroes fight their way out of a maze like dungeon. You’ll fight monsters and overcome deadly traps along the way.
In Legend of Grimrock, four prisoners have been exiled to Mount Grimlock, for crimes they ‘may or may not have committed’. You will guide these criminals through the hidden dungeons of Grimlock, level by level, to escape. There are four races to choose from, which can be given different classes, skills and abilities.
Although Legend of Grimrock is a real time RPG, movement is grid based, as if you and the monsters are pieces on a board game. This movement feels strange, but is refreshing. Because everything moves in real time, combat is really unusual, but also very tactical. The puzzles are pretty complex, but the hardest are usually not essential for making progress in the game. Legend of Grimrock has in game maps, but for the masochists among you, you can play ‘old school’ mode, which has no maps. This means you’ll have to draw out your own maps as you progress, just like in the 80s!
If you like puzzles, dungeons and a challenge, Legend of Grimrock is essential. It’s a fantastic modern update of an almost totally neglected genre, and well worth playing.
