A first-person horror exploration game
Layers of Fears is a first-person horror that features an immersive story as well as exploration elements. The game follows an unseen protagonist as they explore the game world, uncovering mysteries and learning various stories and meanings. The game contains unsettling elements and won’t be suitable for everyone.
This Layers of Fears is a new game that the developer states is built on the foundations of previous games of the same name, Layers of Fears and Layers of Fears 2, but with improved visuals, thanks to a move to the Unreal Engine 5 game engine.
Unravel unsettling mysteries
In Layers of Fears, the player takes on the role of an unseen protagonist who is exploring a house full of paintings and other artifacts. There is a story behind most things in the house, and the player will slowly uncover those stories as they explore the game world. The tales are told through the eyes of artists who became obsessed with their craft.
First-person psychedelic horror
The game is experienced entirely in the first person, which adds an element of horror to some of the visuals, as the player will experience them in a more immersive way than other perspectives would allow. The horror elements come in the form of psychological and surreal visuals and sound, all intended for a mature audience.
Visually impressive, not suitable for younger players
Fans of the earlier Layers of Fears game will likely find this game satisfying as it delivers more of the same but with more impressive graphics. However, the stories and horror elements are certainly not suitable for younger players, nor should players who are sensitive to horror play this game. For those not concerned by horror, the game’s immersive storytelling could be a highlight.
