Quirky life simulator

Kudos 2 is an independent ‘social simulator’, and the aim of the game, as the title suggests, is to increase your social kudos.

The first thing you’ll notice about Kudos 2 is its static nature. The visuals only exist to decorate the decisions you make for your just turned 20 year old protagonist. If you can forgive that, the gently animated graphics actually work quite well alongside the polished soundtrack, giving you a good feel of how you’re progressing.

The focus of Kudos 2 is on the big things in life: You don’t have to monitor your food or bathroom habits here. You decide how to get to and from work, and then more importantly how you spend your evenings. To progress you need to get the right balance of socializing, self improvement and housekeeping. If this sounds like fun, the game is nicely presented, affordable and quite charming.

There is no ‘action’ in Kudos 2, so it should be avoided by anyone whose idea of a game is murdering aliens. We were surprised how good this is, although this reviewer found some parts of the game awkward. For instance, you can invite your friends to various social events, and if they don’t enjoy themselves they are surprisingly blunt. Perhaps we’re used to having more polite friends in real life!
