Free medieval empire simulator
King’s Throne is a free-to-play empire and war simulation MMORPG from GOAT Games. In this role-playing game, you are given the opportunity to run your own medieval kingdom and everything that comes with it: expansion, wars, politics, and governance. Enjoy the experience and immerse yourself in the world of medieval royalty.
In this genre, there are a few games that compare with King’s Throne in terms of the wide range of activities for you to do. For alternatives, check out Game of Sultans or Game of Khans, letting you build an empire while also maintaining control over its inner workings.
Rule your kingdom, inside and outside
As a monarch on King’s Throne, it falls to your judgment to ensure that your lands have enough resources to survive, and possibly, expand. You decide when and how to farm, and the research and discovery of technology that improves these processes. Of course, there are other kingdoms to contend with, both controlled by AI and other human players. You can wage a war or forge mutually beneficial relationships.
Aside from managing the external affairs, the game also has a dating system, allowing you to encounter female characters across the city. You can pursue them, promote them to ladies of the court, and even choose your queen from among them. This adds a dating sim element, which provides a break from the politics and warmongering that takes up most of the playing experience.
One divisive aspect of the game is that it doesn’t spoon-feed you on how to play the game, letting you explore different farming strategies and find various ways to grow your territory. However, for new players, this means that a lot of otherwise useful information is also unavailable, making it a less beginner-friendly game compared to its competitors. They are left blind to some features of the game.
The challenges of kingship
King’s Throne really makes you feel like a king, not only in its pleasures but also in its challenges. Its lack of tutorial materials for new players makes it challenging for starters, but it also lets players explore and stumble across its wealth of content. They can learn farming for resources first, or try to recruit ladies and knights for their court–the choice lies with the player. As a simulation MMORPG, it’s a definite must-try.
