Enrich your Firefox browsing

Juice is a Firefox 3.0 user interface that gives you more information on the things you�re reading in the browser. Like the add-on Ubiquity, Juice aims to enrich your surfing with relevant content.

Whereas Ubiquity works with translucent overlays that appear when you need them, Juice works as a sidebar in your browser, that can be turned on and off with the cool orange Juice icon on the search bar. When open, you can drag information into it, by highlighting words, which Juice will then find more information on. This could be a Google search, or the richer ‘Magic’ feature, which gives you videos, Wikipedia results and news articles.

As well as the additional information, you can also use Juice to store pictures and videos while you’re browsing. The video tool is particularly cool, as it allows you to drag in a video, which can then be played from the Juice side bar, allowing you to keep on browsing with the video still running. With this you can drag in a playlist of YouTube videos to watch and listen to you as you work.

The more enriched ‘Magic’ feature learns as it goes along – popular names like Barak Obama are already included, but if you drag in a new term it will attempt to find enriched content for that too.

If you feel you need more information wile you browse, this is a great idea. The mouse gesture for drag is really nice; just highlight the word and flick it to the right, and Juice will bring it up. As this is a Beta release, we can expect more features soon. Perhaps something like the Google maps mash-ups offered by Ubiquity?

We think this is a an excellent tool to use while browsing, though it would be nice if it were offered for other browsers too.
